Sinking Procedures - unknown cause

If there is a collision - refer to Collision Procedures

  1. Ring Bell - All hands call out "All Hands Sinking Procedures"

 

Cockpit Crew

  1. Shut down engine if source of water is unknown
  2. Heave-to if possible, otherwise, keep sailing
  3. Check Cockpit drains and rudder shaft
  4. Begin pumping with emergency hand pump

Cabin Crew

  1. Grab flashlight
  2. Check all seacocks and through hulls
  3. Shut the seacocks as you check
  4. Assemble emergency hand pump and begin pumping (keep intake clear & don't stop)
  5. Check Keel bolts
  6. Look and listen for water ingress due to hull breach
  7. check through hulls above water line (holding tank vent, engine exhaust, bilge pump outlet, etc)
  8. Grab Mask, regulator and tank and begin looking for hull breach from outside
  9. If wather level is not going down, start engine
  10. Make sure electric bilge pump is working
  11. If water is over aft cabin bed, commence Abandon Ship Procedures

X3 - Head Sink Drain - Always closed - use galley sink

 

1 - Engine Intake Seacock

2 - Galley Sink Seacock

3 - Head Intake Seacock

4 - Port Cockpit Drain

5 - Starboard Cockpit Drain

6 - Rudder Shaft

7 - Propeller Shaft

8 - Speed/Depth Transducers
