Propane Calculations
-
Don't use a large burner if a small one will do the job just as well
-
Don't waste propane preheating the oven
-
Be sure to shut off propane solenoid when done cooking
Burn time
Got some burn time info from WIKIanswers.com. Defender Marine provided me with the BTU's for the force 10 burners but I could not find any info on the oven BTU's. I am sure we will not be using three burners at max (16,400BTU's) all the time. So if we burn 10,000 BTU's a day we will have 36.6 days of burn time which should get us to the Azores with propane to spare.
WIKIanswers assume 4 lbs/20 gal but I have seen other estimates at 4.75 lbs /20 gal tank. I went conservative and used 4 lbs for the calculations.
*****Please check my math******
1 gallon of Propane = 91500 Btus
20 lb tank of propane holds approx 4 gallons of propane (approx 366000 BTUs)
Force 10 stove with 3 burners= 2@ 4100 BTU’s and 1 @ 8200 BTU’s
3 burners at max = 16,400 BTU’s
3 burners at max= 366,000/16,400= 22 hours of burn time
10,000 BTU's/day= 366000/10000= 36.6 hours which is the equivelent of a small burner for 2.5 hours/day.
