Heavy Weather Preperation
These are guidlines. Some don't require much thought, like 'pin cockpit seats'. Others, like remove headsail, require considerable thought before you take such action.
- Tape over transom shower controls
- Remove Dorades, replace with caps
- Pin cockpit seats
- Latch companionway steps
- Pin nav station top
- Set blocks for refer lids
- Set Forestay & Runners
- Remove headsail (force 9+)
- Remove hydrovane rudder & sail (force 8+)
- Clip headsail furling drum
- Prepare storm jib
- Prepare hot meal with leftovers
- Sleep for everyone
- Stow objects that could 'fly'
- Check rig
- Preserve best crew for later in storm
- Double the watch (2 people on, new person every 1 to 2 hours)
- Get weather
- Companionway closed at all times!
