Yanmar 4JH3E Fuel consumption

Note: The following are general estimates...'guidelines' if you will

The propeller has been repitched since the last voyage so we're starting anew. This is something that one could easily overthink so we're going to take a very basic approach to gettting the most miles out of the least fuel.

In complete calms

Until we have checked the fuel consumption, we will run at 2400-2600 rpm. This is not an exact science but I know from experience that anything less than 2400 or so won't provide a reasonable headway speed. FYI - Yanmar's recomended cruising rpm for the 4JH3E is 2900...we are slowing it down a bit to increase our range.

Motorsailing

If our speed dips below 4.6 knots, we need to motorsail if we are behind our goal. In this case, use the minumum RPM necessary to bring the speed up in the six+ knot range. See water calculations for more information.

Range & Capacity

VQ carries 100 gallons of diesel fuel in two seperate tanks.
A rough motoring range at 2400 rpm would be 5 knts x (100 gal/.75 gal/hour) = 650 nm.
